¶ THE CONTENTES OF this Booke.

  • ¶ Fyrst a Preface, wherein is declared thef­fect of all the matters herein conteyned.
  • ¶ A Calender very necessary for the vse of this Booke.
  • ¶ An Almanack for .lx. yeres yet to come, wher in you may readely fynde Easter, Rogacion, and whitsonday.
  • ¶ A Table or Rondell, wherein you maye at all tymes readely fynde the yere of our Lord. The Epact, The Prime, The Dominical letter, and the Leape yere for euer.
  • ¶ A Rule at all tymes to know the Age of the Moone, her chaunge and full, for euer.
  • ¶ A Table wherby to find for euer the feastes of Easter, and all other moueable feastes, as wel those that haue ben, as all suche as are to come.
  • ¶ A newe and more briefe Computacion of the yeres of our Lorde, agreing with the yeres of the reignes of all the kynges of this Realme sithen the Conquest, whereby readely you may finde the yere of our Lorde, the Prime, Epact, The Son­daies letter, the Leape yere, the beginning of eue­ry kynges reigne, and the nomber of yeres that he reigned, and also may quickly vnderstande the ac­compte of the yeres of any Euidence.
  • ¶ A Table to knowe the Ebbes and Floods in most Portes and Hauens in Englande.
  • ¶ A Table declaringe what signe the Moone shalbe in any day of the yere for euer, and also whē it is good to let blood, to Bathe or to Pourge.
  • ¶ All the Principall Faires in a more orderlye maner then hath ben heretofore set forthe.
  • ¶ The highe wayes also from one towne to another moche larger then before hath ben set forth.

THE PREFACE.

THE order of this small Booke, & the matters ther­in conteyned are as foloweth.

FIRST I haue placed herein a Ca­lender, wherein I haue obserued the olde Saynctes dayes, not of supersticion, as thoughe I thought euery of them mencioned in the saide Ca­lender to be a saincte (for of some I know the contrarye: Neyther if they were all saynctes, do I therfore place them in my Calender) But because it hath bene a cu­stome of aūcient time to vse their names in signifiynge and makinge certayne the dayes, tymes, and termes of the yere, as by the dating of diuerse olde Deedes, E­uidences, and Recordes it wil apere. And because the same custome is yet retayned in the retorning of writtes and processes, and also is commonly vsed in the notinge and settyng forth of the principall Faires and Markettes & other seasons of the yere those names serue well for my purpose, & therfore I mighte not conueniently haue [Page] left them out. And vnto the said Calender I haue added the Calendes, Nonas, and Ides, because diuerse euidences are dated on those daies and by those wordes. And therunto also I haue added the vigiles and festiuall daies, with the trewe time of the Termes and their returnes, because that hauyng this booke, there shalbe no occa­sion to call for any other Calender.

And finally in the ende of the saide Ca­lender, I haue set forth an Almanacke for lx. yeeres yet to come, wherein is shewed the first Sonday in Lent, Caster day, Rogacion weke, & Whitsonday, and by them you may finde al other moueable feastes.

NEXT AFTER the Almanacke is a Table or Rondell that teacheth for euer readely to finde the yeres of our Lord, the Epact, the Pryme, the Dominicall letter and the Leape yere, with a declaracion of the vse of the same Table.

AND also a rule to knowe the age of the Moone, her Chaunge, and Full for euer. Then foloweth a Table to finde the feastes of Easter, and so all other the moueable feastes that haue bene in tyme past, or shall be hereafter for euer, with a [Page] playne instruction of the vse and vnder­standinge thereof.

THEN begynneth my Computacion of yeres, wherin is to be noted, that eue­ry page therof is deuyded into eyghte se­uerall partes or places, as may appere by the tytles ouer euery of their heades. In the fyrste place are the yeres of our lorde. In the second the Pryme: In the thyrde, the Epact: In the fourth, the Dominicall letter: In the fifthe, the leape yere, when so euer it happeneth: In the sixte, are the names of the kinges as they reigned, be­ginning with Williā the Conquerour. &c. And in the same place also are the Mone­thes that euery of them entred into theyr reignes. And in the seuenth, are the daies of the Monthes that euery of them began to reigne in. And in the .viij. and last, are the yeres that euery of them reigned.

Also in the ende of the reigne of euerye kynge I haue shewed the day of his death if he died beinge kyng, or the daye of his deposicion if he were deposed, with a true accompte howe many yeres, Monethes, weekes or dayes he reigned.

AND HERE I thincke it mete to [Page] declare somewhat of the commoditie and necessarye vse of the Computacion afore mencioned. And for the better instructi­on and vnderstandynge thereof I wyll moue certayne questions, and geue aun­sweres to the same, in suche sorte as shall so vtter the order and maner therof (as it were by examples) that I doubt not, but the trewe and necessary vse of the same, shall playnely appere to all men.

1. Question.

I wold know by this Computacion in the fourth yere of king Edward the first, what was then the yere of our Lorde, the Prime, the Epact, Dominicall letter, and the Monthe and daye that he beganne his reigne in, and what day in the weeke the same was?

Aunswere.

Amonge the kinges, seke out for kynge Edwarde the first, and then looke for the fourth yere of his reigne, and there it appereth to be the yere of our Lord. 1275. The [Page] Prime. 3. The Epact. 18. The Dominical letter F. The Monethe that he began his reigne in, Nouember & the. 16. day, which day that yere was Saterday, as is easy to be knowen if you looke in the Calēder for the .xvj. daye of Nouember, accomptyuge F. for Sonday, then that day must nedes be Saterday, and so of all other the lyke.

2. Question.

An Euidence dated the. 15. Calendes of December in the .iij. yere of kinge Iohn, I wolde knowe what daye of the Monthe the same was, and howe long it is sithen?

Aunswere.

First loke in the Calender in y e Month of Nouember for the Calendes of Decēber, and there you shall finde, that the .xv. Ca­lendes of December is on the .xvij. day of Nouember. Then seeke in the Computa­cion for kinge Iohn, and you shall fynde that the thirde yeere of his reigne was in the yere of our Lorde. 1201. And then sette downe this yere of our lorde wherein the [Page] question is asked, whiche is. 1571. and take out therof. 1201. and there resteth. 370. And so it must followe that vpon the .xvij. day of Nouember next, it shalbe sithen the .iij. yere of kynge Iohn. 370. yeres, and thus of the lyke.

3. Question.

An Euidence dated the second Sonday in Lent in the .iiii. yere of kinge Stephin. I would know in what yere of our Lord the same was, and also in what Monthe, and on what daye the seconde Sonday in Lent was then?

Aunswere.

First looke among the kinges for king Stephyn. And when you haue found him then looke for the .iiij. yere of his reigne, and there you shall finde the yeere of our lorde to be. 1138. and the Prime. 18. and B. the Sondaies letter. Then go to the table that teacheth to knowe Easter day and al the moueable feastes, whiche is the nexte Table before the Computacion.

[Page] And there vnder the title of Prime, seeke among those nombers for. 18. And when you haue founde it, loke downward from the lyne where the Prime standeth, and seeke for the next B. whiche that yere was the Sondaies letter. And when you haue founde B. go forwarde in that lyne, and there you shall finde the .xx. daye of Fe­bruary to be that yere the first Sonday in Lent, and thervnto put .vij. dayes for one weeke more, and that sheweth that the se­conde Sonday in Lent that yere was the 27. day of February. Then set down this present yere of our Lord. 1571. and take out therof the yere of our Lord that was then, whiche was. 1138. and there resteth. 433. And so it doth plainely appere that the. 27. day of February next comming, it shalbe 433. yeres-sithen the .iiii. yere of the reigne of kinge Stephyn. And thus you may do with the lyke.

4. Question.

I haue a lease for .lxxx. yeeres, that be­gan at Mighelmas in the. 17. yere of king Henry the .vij. My desire is to knowe this [Page] present yere. 1571. whether my lease be ex­pired, or how many yeres I haue to com?

Aunswere.

First in the Computacion loke among the kinges for king Henry the .vij. & then for the. 17. yere of his reigne, whiche you shall finde to be in the yeere of our Lorde 1501. The whiche nomber take out of this present yere of our Lord. 1571. and then re­steth. 70. & so many yeres of the said lease shall be expyred at Mighelmas nexte, and then shall remayne. 10. yeres to come, and so of the lyke.

5 ¶ An other Question and playne example meete for suche as can not extracte one nomber out of an other.

A Lease dated the vj. of Iulij, in the. 31. yere of the reigne of kyng Henry the .viij. for the terme of xl yeres that began at our Lady daye in Lent then next folowinge: I woulde now knowe whether the sayde lease be expyred, or how many yeres there are to come?

Aunswere.

Fyrst loke in the Computacion among the kynges for kinge Henry the .viij. and for the. 31. yere of his reigne, whiche you shall fynde to be in the yere of our Lorde. 1539. Then at the next yere folowinge be­gin to recon, and call that one, and so tel downe in order all the yeeres folowinge, and ende with this present yere. 1571, And in the whole, you shall finde the nomber of 32. And so many yeres of the sayde lease shalbe expired at our lady day in lent next comming. And at that time there shal re­maine to come of the saide lease .viij. yeres and thus you may accompte the yeres of any lease.

6 An other very plaine question or example, easye for all men to conceaue, and in this time is commonly vsed,

A lease dated the 17. daye of August, in the v. yere of the reigne of kyng Edward the .vj. for the terme of xxj. yeres, whiche began at Mighelmas then next folowing. I aske the question this xij. day of August [Page] 1571. whether the saide lease be expired, or howe many yeres are yet to come?

Aunswere.

Fyrst in the Computacion, amonge the kinges, seke for king Edward the vj. and for the v. yere of his reigne, and there you shall finde the yere of our lorde to be. 1550. Then begyn at the next yere after, which is 1551. and call that one, and so tel down­warde all the yeres to this presente yeere 1571. And in the whole you shall finde. 21. whiche plainely declareth that at Mighel­mas next, the aforesaid terme of. 21. yeres shall be fully expired. And this you maye do in the accompt of all termes of yeres.

Note also that in the said Computacion diuerse of the kings haue in the first yere of their reigne no yere of our Lorde: The cause is, that they began in the same yere that the former kinge dyed in. And there­fore when you tell the yeeres, do not rec­ken them that haue no yere of our Lorde,

Note also that the yere of our lord after the Computacion of the Church of Eng­land, beginneth euer the. 25. day of March [Page] which is the daye of the Annunciacion of our Lady. And the nomber of the Epacte beginneth euer the firste daye of Marche, and the Prime the fyrst daye of Ianuary.

Note also, that when thou accompteste any terme of yeeres, that the same terme that thy lease first beganne in, must ende & fynishe in the last yere of thy reconynge at the selfe same terme. As if thy lease be­gan at Myghelmas for .xxj. yeres, then it muste ende at Mighelmas the same yeere that the whole .xxj. yeres are expired in, & if at Midsomer, then it must ende at Mid­somer the same yere, as the last question and example dothe playnely shewe.

And this I trust may suffyce for the in­struction of the vse, order, and commody­tie of the saide Computacion.

Then foloweth .iiij. Tables that teache for euer to know in most Portes and Hauens of this Realme: when it is ful Sea, with a plaine declaraciō of the said tables.

And fynally one other Table, shewing for euer what signe the Mone is and shall be in euery daye, and declareth also what dayes are good to let Blood, Pourge, or Bathe. &c.

[Page] And hereunto I haue added the Month, daye, and place, of all the Faires kept in England, set forth in a more orderly ma­ner then heretofore hath ben.

And fynally, in the later ende hereof is set out the waies (in a larger maner then before they haue ben) as well how a man maye trauell from any notable towne in England, to the Citie of Lōdon, as from London to any notable towne, or from one notable town to an other in the most partes of this Realme: So that herein are conteyned the chiefe and moste necessary things that pertaine to any mans trauel.

A necessary and perfecte rule to knowe when the Termes beginne and ende, and howe many Retornes are in euery Terme.

¶ Eight daies before any terme be, the Exche­quer openeth for certeintie. Excepte the terme of Trinitie, that openeth but iiij. days before truely.

¶ Hillary terme beginneth the xxiij. day of Ia­nuary, if it be not Sunday: then the next day af­ter, and endeth the .xij. of February.

¶ Easter terme beginneth .xvij. dayes after Easter, & endeth iiij. daies after the Ascenciō day.

¶ Trinitie terme beginneth the next day after Corpus Christi daye, and endeth the wednesday fortnight after.

¶ Michelmas terme beginneth the ix. of Octo­ber if it be not Sunday, and endeth the xxviij. of Nouember.

¶ In this Calender you shal often times finde these letters B. and E. The whiche signifie suche dayes as the Egypcians note to be dangerous to begyn or take any thing in hand, as to take a Iorney or any suche thing.

A Table, wherin thou mayst readely fynde the Epact, the Prime, or Golden nombre, the Dominicall Letter, and the Leape yere for euer.

¶ A declaracion of this Rundell and Circles in the same,

FYRST NOTE that in the foresayde Rundell are v. Circles, and in the vp­permost Circle are placed the yeres of our [Page] Lorde, the whiche you muste firste looke for, before you seeke for any of the other matters. After you haue founde the yere of our Lorde, then in the nexte Circle vn­der that, is the Epact of that yere, and the Circle nexte vnder that, is the Pryme or Golden nomber of that yere. And in the next Circle vnder that, is the Dominicall letter of that yere. And if it be leape yere, then the same stādeth right vnder the Do­minicall letter in the nethermost Circle.

¶ The Epact.

AND HERE note, that the Epact kepeth continually a course of .xxx. yeres, by putting to euery yere .xj. and takynge awaye euer the nomber of xxx. and what soeuer remaineth more then xxx. the same is the Epact for that yere: As for example, the Epact this present yere of our Lorde. 1571. is 4. And the next yere, that is to say the first day of Marche, for euer the nom­ber of the Epact chaungeth the firste daye of Marche. And then I put .xj. to my. 4. that was this yeere, and that maketh .xv. whiche shalbe the Epact the firste daye of Marche next comming, and so shall conti­nue [Page] al that yere vntil March come again, and then put a xj. more to the nomber that was before, and it shalbe xxvj. which like­wise shal continue al y t yere vntil Marche folowing, and then put to xxvj. a xj. more, and that maketh xxvij: which nomber of xxx. you must put away, and then resteth vij. for the Epact of that yere. And when soeuer the nomber of the Epact is ful xxx. then is there no Epact that yere.

ALSO NOTE, as I said before, that the course of the Epact cōtinueth 30. yere, and the very same nomber that is the E­pact this yere, shalbe the Epact again xxx. yeres hence, as thou maist easely perceiue by the aforesaide Circle, which setteth out the whole course of the Epact for 30. yere, and then beginneth again as it began be­fore, and so it is a perfect nōber for euer.

¶ The Prime or Golden nomber.

THE Prime is a nomber that begyn­neth with one, and yerely increaceth one, vntyll it come to the nomber of .xix. and then it beginneth againe one. &c. So that euery .xix. yere is the whole course of the Prime or Golden nomber for euer.

¶ The Dominicall letter.

THE Dominicall or Sondayes letter kepeth his course. 28. yere, And the same letter that is Sondayes letter this yeere, shalbe the Sondaies letter. 28. yere hence. And so haue you the rule to find the Son­daies letter for euer.

¶ The Leape yeere.

THE leape yere as you may perceaue by the former & nethermost Circle chaun­ceth euery iiij. yere. And euer when thou mayest deuide the yere of our Lorde euen in iiij. partes, then is it leape yeere. And thus you haue a full and perfecte declara­cion of the former rundell, and the Cir­cles therein conteyned.

A Rule to knowe at all tymes the Age of the Moone, her chaunge and ful.

IF YOV desyre at any tyme to knowe how olde the Moone is. Firste consider what day of the Month it is that you wold knowe the age of the Moone. And then know what nōber the Epact is that yere, [Page] and put them together, then accompt how many Monthes the same is frō the Month of Marche, and recon Marche for one, and then put all together, and se what nomber that maketh. If the nomber be more then 30. take out the 30. and looke what resteth and so many daies olde the Mone is: But if it be iust 30. then you maye be sure that the same day the Mone chaunged, or was the first daie of the Mone. And if the nom­ber be lesse then. 30. what so euer it be, so many daies olde is the Mone. And for the better vnderstanding hereof, I will geue you an example or twayne.

¶ Example.

I wolde knowe the .xv. day of Decem­ber next cōming 1571. how olde the Moone wilbe. First I haue in memory this nom­ber .xv. and streyght I put thereunto the nomber of the Epact this yere which is 4. and that maketh. 19. then I put so manye Monthes thereunto as is from Marche to December and recon Marche for the first, and December for the laste, and they are x. the whiche I put to my aforesayd nom­ber 19. which in the whole maketh 29. and [Page] so many dayes olde shall the Mone be the 15. daye of December next.

ANOTHER example, I wold know the 19. daye of September next comminge 1571. how old the Mone shalbe: First I put in Memory 19. which is the day I aske the question of, and I put therunto the Epact of this yere whiche is 4. and that maketh 23. and thereunto I put so many Monthes as is from Marche to September and re­ken Marche for one, as I dyd in the laste example, and that is 7. Monthes, whiche nombers beinge put altogether make. 30. and that day the Mone changeth or is the fyrst day of y e Mone. And thus of al other.

The yere when there is no Epact, which as you may perceiue by the former Table chaunceth euery xxx. yere, then alwayes that yere the Mone changeth the first day of Marche. And all that yere you shall re­ken for the age of the Mone the day of the Month, and so many Monthes as is from Marche, and that is the age of the Moone for that yere.

Nowe when you know the chaunge of the Mone, put thereunto. 7. and there be­ginneth the fyrst quarter, and the. 15. daye [Page] is full Mone, and. 7. daies more beginneth the last quarter. And thus ye may readely and quickelye reken vppon your fingers, and finde the newe Mone, full Mone, and the age of the Mone at any time for euer.

And when you haue the former rule in perfecte memorye, then maye you at any time, tell when it is full sea, or lowe wa­ter, namely here in the ryuer of Thames at London bridge, as thus. Knowe for a certaintie that euery change of the Mone, and euery full Mone maketh a hyghe wa­ter or full sea at London Bridge at iij. of the clocke eyther in the mornyng or at af­ter none, and then may you reken so ma­ny daies from the change to the ful Mone whiche is. 15. dayes, and accompt the tide to encreace euery daye one houre, whiche is xv. houres, and then abate xv quarters, for in a daye are two tydes, a flood and an Ebbe, & they bothe alter scant iij. quar­ters of an houre, except stormes and tem­pestes cause the contrary, and so you may from daye to daye where so euer you are, knowe the certeintie of the tyde at Lōdon Bridge. And the better to leade you vnto the vnderstanding herof, take this exāple.

[Page] I would know the xij. of Septēber next 1571. at what tyme it shalbe high water at London Bridge. First I resort to my for­mer rule, and serche how many dayes old the Moone wyll be that day, & I finde that the Moone shalbe 23. dayes olde, and then I consider that the 15. daye, whiche day the Moone was at the ful, it was highe water at 3. of the clock, then for viij. dayes more, I adde for euery daye thre quarters of an houre, and that is vj houres, which I put to 3. of the clock, and that maketh 9. of the clock, at whiche houre shalbe a highe wa­ter, and then tell from ix. of the clock, vij. houres more, & that maketh iiij. of the clock, and then shal it be a dead lowe water, and thus of all other for euer.

On the other syde of this leafe fo­loweth a Table, whiche sheweth howe you may readely finde Easter and all other moueable feastes of the yere for e­uer, as well for tymes past, as for the times to come.

¶ A descripcion of the ordre and vse of the aforesaid Table as foloweth.

FIrst note, that the sayd Table is deui­ded into sixe partes or places. In the first is the Prime, in the secōd, the Domi­nical letter, in the thirde, the first Sōday in Lent, in the fourth Easter daye, in the fifth, Rogacion weeke, and in the sixte Whitsondaye.

And for the better vnderstandinge of the vse therof, ye must alwayes when you desyre to knowe the tyme of any of the saide Feastes, firste consider what yere of the Lorde it is that you woulde knowe them in, and then looke what was or is the Prime of that yere, and the Domini­cal letter, and those may you easely finde and learne in the little roundeale, that is before set forth. And when you know the Prime, and Sondayes letter, thē come to this Table, and it will easely shewe you your desire.

¶ Example.

I would knowe in y e yere of our Lorde 1574. when shall be the firste Sondaye in Lent, Easter daye, &c.

[Page] Firste I go to the roundeale aforesaide, and there in the vppermost Circle, I seke out the yere of our Lorde 1574. and in the second Circle directly vnder that, there I finde that yere the Prime to be 17. and vn­der that, the Dominicall letter to bee C. Then I come to the aboue sayde Table, and first vnder the tytle of Prime I seeke for the nombre of 17. & when I haue found the same, then I loke downeward among the Sondayes letters for the next C that is after the Prime, for that is the Son­dayes Letter for that yere, and when I haue founde C. I go forward in that line where C standeth, And first I fynde that the 28. daye of February that yere, shalbe the firste Sonday in Lent, the 11. daye of Aprill, Easter daye, the 16. daye of Maye, Rogacion weke, and the 30. daye of Maye Whitsonday. And thus may you do with all other, bothe for tyme paste, and tyme to come, for euer.

NOTE ALSO that this Table in the begynninge sheweth the lowest Monethe and daye in the yere, that Easter, and all other moueable feastes do falle in. And in the ende, it sheweth the highest Monethe [Page] and daye that Easter, and the moueable feastes do ascend vnto. So may it be true­ly saide, that it is a perfect table.

And yet hereunto will I adde one rule, whiche though it be in olde and rude me­ter, yet is it worthy of memory, and it is the same rule, whereby this Table was made, whiche is this.

¶ A declaracion of the Tables, last before moncioned.

IF YOV be desyrous at any tyme to knowe when it is a full Sea or highe water at any Porte or Hauen in Englād Wales, or Ireland, or in any other parte of y e worlde. If first by your owne know­ledge, or the knowledge of any expert maryner, you know when you se the Moone in suche a parte of the firmament, that thē it is ful sea at suche a port or hauen. Then these Tables shalbe nedeles for you. But if you can not so do, and woulde learne, then resorte to these Tables, and first consyder with your selfe howe manye dayes olde the Moone is the daye that you desire to knowe the tyde. And in the myddle of the saide tables, you shall finde in the vp­permost parte of them, thys title. The age of the Moone. And righte agaynst the day of the age of the Moone, you shall finde on bothe sides, the places and poyntes of the firmament, as South, South and by West, and South Southe West. &c.

And next vnder that line, are these letters H. M. whiche signifie Houres and My­nutes. [Page] Then hauyng in memory the age of the Moone, as aforsaide, go directly to the title of that place of the firmament, to the which when the Moone commeth ma­keth a hyghe water, and there you shall finde the Houre and Mynute when it is full Sea in that place.

¶ I would knowe at what houre it wil be a full Sea or highe water at London Bridge the xx. daye of December nexte, beynge in the yere of our Lord 1571.

¶ Aunswer.

sp FIRST resorte to the former Table that teacheth you to knowe the age of the Moone at all tymes, and by that rule you shal finde, that the xx. daye of December nexte, the Moone shalbe iiij. dayes olde. Then looke vpon the titles in the vpper­most parte of the aforesayde Tables, and amonge them you shall finde London. And directely in the lyne nexte vnder the same, you shal find Southwest, the which [Page] declareth that when the Moone is in the Southwest, that then it is ful sea at Lon­don Bridge. Then go downe the lyne of the age of the Moone, vntyl you come at the iiij. daye, and there you shall finde on the lefte hande of the same, directely vn­der the lyne where Southwest standeth these figures 6. 12. which is vj. of the clock and xij. mynutes, at whiche tyme the a­foresaid 20. daye of December nexte shall be highe water at London Bridge.

And in the vppermost parte of the a­foresaid Tables, I haue written the names of some Portes, at whiche tyme the Moone comming to that place causeth a full Sea, and vnto them ye may adde suche other as you haue, or shall haue know­ledge of.

FIrste, for the better vnderstandinge thereof: Note that it is deuided into vij. titles, that is to saye, into Mone­thes, Daies, Prime, Signes, to let blood, purge & to bathe. Now if you will knowe at anye tyme what signe the Mone is in, you must first seke out in the sayd Table amog the monthes, for the moneth wher­in you desier to be certified, and likewise, among the title of dayes, for the daye of y t moneth that you desire, and when you haue found them, then begyn at the moneth and tell the same for one daye, and so go forth vntill you come to the nomber of y t dayes that you woulde haue, & note well what daye the same doth ende vpon, and kepe it in your memory. Then seke for y e Prime of that yere amog the title of Pri­mes, and accomptyng the Prime for one, tell so many dayes as before you commit ted to memory, and then on the ryghte hand you shal finde what signe the Mone is in, & what dayes are good to let blood, [Page] to purge, and to bathe, whiche are noted with these ij. letters, G for good, and B for bad, & where there is no Letter, there the signe is indifferent.

¶ Example.

I WOVLDE knowe the 12 daye of Nouember nexte, in this presente yere of our Lord. 1571, what signe the Moone wil be in. First I looke in the aforesayd Ta­ble, among the title of the Monethes, and there I fynde Nouember together with Februarij placed agaynste the figure. 1. whiche is in the title of dayes, and there I begyn to recken and call the figure of 1. one, and so tell downwarde vntil I come to 12. and I finde that the same endeth vp­pon 12. which nombre I kepe in memory. Then I seeke for the Prime of this yere, whiche is. 4. among the title of Primes, and on the left syde therof standeth 11. and there I begyn againe, and cal that 11. one, and so go downewarde, till I come to the nomber whiche I had kepte in memorye, which was 12. and on the right side therof I finde the signe to be Capricorne, naught to let Blood, to Pourge, or to Bathe. And thus of all other.
