            <p>EEBO-TCP is a partnership between the Universities of Michigan and Oxford and the publisher ProQuest to create accurately transcribed and encoded texts based on the image sets published by ProQuest via their Early English Books Online (EEBO) database (http://eebo.chadwyck.com). The general aim of EEBO-TCP is to encode one copy (usually the first edition) of every monographic English-language title published between 1473 and 1700 available in EEBO.</p>
            <p>EEBO-TCP aimed to produce large quantities of textual data within the usual project restraints of time and funding, and therefore chose to create diplomatic transcriptions (as opposed to critical editions) with light-touch, mainly structural encoding based on the Text Encoding Initiative (http://www.tei-c.org).</p>
            <p>The EEBO-TCP project was divided into two phases. The 25,363 texts created during Phase 1 of the project have been released into the public domain as of 1 January 2015. Anyone can now take and use these texts for their own purposes, but we respectfully request that due credit and attribution is given to their original source.</p>
            <p>Users should be aware of the process of creating the TCP texts, and therefore of any assumptions that can be made about the data.</p>
            <p>Text selection was based on the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature (NCBEL). If an author (or for an anonymous work, the title) appears in NCBEL, then their works are eligible for inclusion. Selection was intended to range over a wide variety of subject areas, to reflect the true nature of the print record of the period. In general, first editions of a works in English were prioritized, although there are a number of works in other languages, notably Latin and Welsh, included and sometimes a second or later edition of a work was chosen if there was a compelling reason to do so.</p>
            <p>Image sets were sent to external keying companies for transcription and basic encoding. Quality assurance was then carried out by editorial teams in Oxford and Michigan. 5% (or 5 pages, whichever is the greater) of each text was proofread for accuracy and those which did not meet QA standards were returned to the keyers to be redone. After proofreading, the encoding was enhanced and/or corrected and characters marked as illegible were corrected where possible up to a limit of 100 instances per text. Any remaining illegibles were encoded as &lt;gap&gt;s. Understanding these processes should make clear that, while the overall quality of TCP data is very good, some errors will remain and some readable characters will be marked as illegible. Users should bear in mind that in all likelihood such instances will never have been looked at by a TCP editor.</p>
            <p>The texts were encoded and linked to page images in accordance with level 4 of the TEI in Libraries guidelines.</p>
            <p>Copies of the texts have been issued variously as SGML (TCP schema; ASCII text with mnemonic sdata character entities); displayable XML (TCP schema; characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or text strings within braces); or lossless XML (TEI P5, characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or TEI g elements).</p>

            <head>Inſtructions for the Surveyors of the late Arch-Biſhops and Biſhops Lands, which are to be ſurveyed.</head>
            <p>THat the Truſtees as aforeſaid ſhall have power to no<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>minate one, two, three, or more Surveyors to ſurvey the Premiſſes, or any part of them as they ſhall thinke fit, and that the ſurveyes and returnes made by any ſuch one, two, three, or more Surveyors, ſhall be good and effectuall to be proceeded upon, notwithſtanding any Clauſe in any Ordinance of Parliament to the contrary.</p>
            <p>That the Surveyor or Surveyors appointed, or to be appointed by the Truſtees, ſhall ſurvey, and inquire what Timber building, open Quarries, or Mines are upon any of the Premiſſes, and certifie the condition and values thereof.</p>
            <p>That no Surveyor, or any his Childe or Children, or any in truſt for him or them, ſhall be admitted to be a Purchaſer of any part of the Lands ſurveyed, or to be ſur<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>veyed by himſelfe, upon paine of loſing his or their Pur<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>chaſe Money, and the Purchaſe to be void.</p>
            <p>Provided, that nothing in the Inſtructions, Oath, or in this preſent Ordinance, ſhall be conſtrued to compell

               <!-- PDF PAGE 20 -->the Surveyors to make any admeaſurement of the Lands, or any particular Survey, and of the number of Acres, un<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>leſſe they in their diſcretion ſhall thinke fit; the intention of the Houſes being, That the ſaid Surveyors ſhould make a ſpeedy returne of their ſeverall ſurveyes, to the end that a ſpeedy ſale may be made thereupon.</p>

            <head>Inſtructions to be obſerved by the REGISTER.</head>
            <p n="1">I. THat he do receive all Surveyes, and Certificates to be returned by the Surveyors, and immediately after the receipt thereof, fairely enter and Regiſter the ſame in Books, to be kept by him for that purpoſe, and in an orderly manner fyle, bundle up, and ſafely lay up, and keepe the Originals.</p>
            <p n="2">II. That he do weekly or oftner certifie unto the Contra<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ctours, what Surveyes and Certificates are returned to him, and of what Manours, or otherwiſe as the caſe ſhall require.</p>
            <p n="3">III. That upon Warrant and Direction from the Contra<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ctors, he do make forth, and fairely ingroſſe in Parch<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ment, particulars of all ſuch Manours, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, Buildings, Woods, or other things ſur<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>veyed

               <!-- PDF PAGE 20 -->and certified into his Office, by the Surveyors, whereupon the Contractors are to proceed, or intend to make any ſale, and that he do examine and ſigne the ſame particulars, and deliver them to the Contractors.</p>
            <p n="4">IIII. That upon Contract or Agreement made by the Con<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>tractors, for any Manours, Lands, Tenements, Heredita<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ments, Buldings, Woods, or other thing contained in any particular made forth, ſigned and delivered unto them by the Regiſter, the ſaid particular be returned to the Regi<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſter, together with the Order of Agreement or Contract made with the Purchaſors thereupon.</p>
            <p>That upon returne thereof, he do forthwith rate the particular, and aſcertaine the purchaſe Money, how much it comes to, at how many yeares Purchaſe the parliculars contracted for are ſold, and enter the ſame upon the ſaid particular, together with ſuch other proceedings as ſhall be required by the Contract.</p>
            <p>That he do returne the particular thus rated and aſcer<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>tained to the Contractors, who are to ſigne the ſame, to at<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>teſt the Agreement, and thereupon to deſire and give Warrant to the Truſtees to draw up and ſeale conveyan<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ces thereof to the Purchaſors accordingly.</p>
            <p>That all particulars thus finiſhed, together with all pro<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ceedings thereupon, be fairely entred or regiſtred by the Regiſter, and be ſafely kept by him as Records, and that after ſuch entring and regiſtring thereof, the Regiſter do deliver the ſaid particulars unto the Truſtees to perfect the ſale as aforeſaid.</p>
            <p>And to the end this ſervice may be performed in ſuch manner as the Regiſter may be able from time to time to give an accompt of all proceedings; (if he ſhall be requi<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>red)

            <p>That he do weekly make Certificate to the Treaſurers, Comptroller, and Regiſter, accomptant of all Rents, and all Rates of particulars, and of all Moneyes payable upon any Contract upon any particular, how much thereof is to be paid in hand, and how much to be forborne, and for what time, and how, and in what manner the ſum or ſums to be forborne are to be ſecured.</p>
            <p>That he do methodize and put in good order all Char<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ters, Evidences, and Writings, belonging to the late Arch<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>biſhops, and Biſhops, and all Books or Survey, and other things to be delivered to his care and cuſtody, to be kept by him as Records, and make Catalogues of them, and fit them in ſuch manner, as the Subject may readily ſee, and have Copies (if he deſire it) of whatſoever ſhall be brought into the Regiſters Office, and be under his charge and cuſtody.</p>
